The STX II brings new op-amps and a more precise clock generator to the table; the latter should lower jitter. Show full review. Last edited by a moderator: Nov 22, Joined Oct 10, Messages 78 0.
Great card, great bundles op-amps FTW but hefty price. Thanks for the review, Frederik! Joined Oct 2, Messages 13, 2. I bet it will be great for music and movies, but just as rubbish for games as the original STX.
I had it and it was the soundcard with the worst 3D sound positioning i've ever heard. Couldn't tell where's any enemy. Even ALC6xx series onboards from Realtek were better at it. It was so bad i sold it like half a year later. Buggy drivers with rare updates were even worse than anything i've come across from SB Live! I'm a total nut as far as game sound goes, but i've never seen such stagnation in this segment.
Basically since Vista release and change of the audio API, it just dived straight to bottom. And now everyone think obsession with higher SNR will somehow improve things.

I listen to instrumental music daily but with my set of speakers I doubt I will notice any difference with this card over the SB Z. Joined Apr 16, Messages 0. With all new games STX is absolutely fine. No one is using EAX anymore.

Joined Oct 30, Posts Likes My xonar will ocassionally out of nowhere just start this incredibly loud high pitched ringing noise and it won't stop until I reset the computer. It's terrifying because I'm afraid of it damaging my ears it's so loud. It happens about once a week probably about 4 times now. Also for a duration of 1 second with phones on could this damage my ears? Hybrys Headphoneus Supremus. Joined Dec 20, Posts 1, Likes It's a problem with your drivers.
I'd suggest uninstalling the drivers, rebooting, and reinstalling the drivers. As for damage to your ear drums, there's not much that can do any permanent damage in 1sec. AHH that's so good to know it's not the card, OK I'll do all of that right now cool thanks a ton man! Quote: waverider69 said:. Click to expand Yeah it's like that, when it happens it's always right when I click something that initiates a sound so that makes good sense.
